Stormwater Management Academy
Marty Wanielista is the director of the Stormwater Management Academy, Professor of Engineering, a Pegasus Professor, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Central Florida. He has been at UCF for 38 years. He is now president of a sustainable company called STE. He has a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Detroit, Masters from Manhattan College, and a PhD in Environmental Systems from Cornell. He has completed over 70 research projects in the areas of Hydrology and Stormwater, and is currently working on six projects. He has over 250 publications including 7 textbooks. He was very active with the new state wide stormwater rule and helped formulate policies for stormwater management in the State. He has been identified as the grandfather of stormwater management and most recently credited with introducing green roofs and stormwater reuse to the State of Florida as stormwater management alternatives. He is very active in promoting stewardship of sustainable water resources by promoting green roofs, pervious pavement and the reuse of stormwater. He is an advocate of the use of stormwater as an alternative water supply.
