Administrative Responsibilities:

Mary Huggins serves as Director of FSEC's Business Affairs Division, providing administrative support to the center ’s research, education, training and testing activities. In cooperation with the appropriate University of Central Florida offices, Ms. Huggins is responsible for contract and grant administration, financial analysis and control, personnel matters, and other administrative functions. She also serves has Chair of UCF’s Patent Committee, which provides a faculty peer-review process for intellectual property and licensing.

She has devoted her entire career to solar energy research. Prior to joining FSEC in 1987, she worked as a staff engineer for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, where her research included the development of a standard test methods for concentrating solar thermal energy collectors. She also provided program planning and technical support for NREL’s solar buildings, solar thermal and ocean energy programs and managed contracted research. As an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware’s Institute of Energy Conversion from 1977-1979, she developed a monitoring procedure for solar hot water systems and designed a greenhouse using phase-change materials for heat storage.
