Research Focus:

Brian Hanson is currently the lead programmer for the EnergyGauge USA residential rating software product. The software provides a detailed hourly simulation of thermal energy use using the DOE2 engine and functions written by FSEC staff members. Brian has greatly expanded the features of the software, incorporating detailed solar water heating and photovoltaic algorithms important in analyzing new zero energy homes for various state and federal programs. EnergyGauge USA is the software chosen for analysis by the Department of Energy 's Building America teams.

Brian has been employed at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), where he has worked since 2000. Before joining FSEC, Mr. Hanson spent nine years working on the Ground Computer Systems for the Titan program at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. After graduation from college Mr. Hanson worked for a small software company developing and maintaining insurance rating software.
