James Haggard has been working in the alternative energy field since 1998, focusing on alternative energy applications and advanced data collection, storage, and presentation technologies. His career at the Florida Solar Energy Center began with the installation of a long distance data acquisition system to monitor Miami's progressive fleet of alternative fuel busses, which are still in use near South Beach. As the Florida Solar Energy Center was awarded several grants for the construction and testing of prototype hybrid vehicles for the Department of Defense, he shifted focus toward studying various vehicle design strategies with other FSEC researchers.
As data analysis technologies took center stage at FSEC, James became involved in the design and construction of new data storage and presentation technologies. These technologies have created a rapid application development environment for software developers that allows for higher resolution data analysis using commercially available software.Currently, as the Center’s Coordinator of Web Engineering, James is adapting new web technologies to create a dynamic institutional web presence for the center. As energy issues take center stage in the nation’s consciousness, James and the Web Engineering Team are working to create information architecture strategies that repackage the Center’s considerable knowledge base to better inform Floridians and the nation about upcoming energy issues and solutions being developed at the center.
