Energy-Efficient Builders Reaping Benefits
Construction is on the rise for six Florida energy-efficient homebuilders who partner with DOE's Building America program. “The future of new home construction is energy-efficient, high-quality housing,” said Subrato Chandra, FSEC’s Building America program director.

USGBC's LEED for Homes Green Rater Program
As of October 2009, there are nearly 20,000 units registered with LEED for Homes throughout the U.S., all of which require on-site verification from a credentialed LEED for Homes Green Rater. To help meet this demand, USGBC has designed the all-new LEED for Homes Green Rater Program to establish minimum qualifications and competencies among Green Raters who perform in-field verification on LEED for Homes projects.

Improving Energy Efficiency in Relocatable Classrooms
Portables or "relocatable" classrooms have been used for years to accommodate growing school populations, especially in the Southeastern United States. There are large numbers of these units in service and many of them need significant improvement or replacement. This report discusses the big impact "temporary" classrooms can have on the energy footprint of a school.

Top Ten Checklist for Energy-Efficient Buildings in the Southern United States
Commercial and institutional buildings vary greatly, from one to another, in size, use, and type of construction. Due to a wide range of building types, this checklist assumes a medium-sized (20,000 to 50,000 ft2) office building located in areas with hot and humid summers. The issues that are raised here may equally apply to schools, churches, theatres, and some retail buildings.

Energy-Efficient Approaches to Relative Humidity Control in Schools
During periods when air conditioning is needed, ideal indoor conditions in school buildings are about 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 50% relative humidity (RH). This report discusses energy-efficient strategies designed to control relative humidity in schools.
