As part of FSEC's teacher and student programs, the Center hosts the EnergyWhiz Olympics, Middle School Science Bowl and the EPEC Awards. In addition, FSEC offers workshops and short courses for Florida teachers in the areas of solar and hydrogen technologies, environmental issues, and instructional strategies for science classrooms, using the inquiry approach.

The EnergyWhiz Olympics is an annual event that is composed of the Junior Solar Sprint, Hydrogen Sprint, Energy Innovations and the Solar Energy Cook-off. The EnergyWhiz Olympics is held in early May. The public is encouraged to attend at no charge.
Energy
Innovations Energy Innovations is a real world design competition using full-scale solar electric (Photovoltaic) panels. Middle and high school students explore engineering and the growing technology of photovoltaics through this design challenge. |
Hydrogen
Sprint A high school competition that was developed to provide opportunities for students to explore hydrogen power with a hands-on design component and a multimedia presentation. |
Junior
Solar SprintMiddle school students, in grades 6 - 8 are invited to design, build and race Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) cars. The small model cars—powered entirely by solar energy and steered by wires—are built as team efforts guided by teachers. |
Solar
Energy Cook-offThe Solar Energy Cook-off is a solar cooker competition for students in grades 4 - 8. The teams demonstrate the performance of their solar cookers by creating an original dish of food created for the competition, which is evaluated by a panel of judges. |


This program recognizes students for conducting outstanding scientific research in energy and/or energy conservation.


This academic competition is a fast-paced question and answer contest. The top academic team from this competition goes on to compete at the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C.
