Mr. John Masiello
Director, DSM and Alternative Energy Strategy
Progress Energy Florida

John Masiello is Director of Demand Side Management and Alternative Energy for Progress Energy Florida.  John leads a team responsible for researching, developing and implementing the company’s energy-efficiency and alternative-energy programs.  His focus is on designing energy-management solutions that reduce operating costs and maximize efficiencies.

John has a long history of pioneering energy-efficiency and alternative-energy solutions throughout Progress Energy’s service territory. Under his leadership, Progress Energy has received several awards from environmental and state agencies, including the following:

• EPA’s 2000 Energy Star Homes Ally of the Year Award
• Corporate Energy Manager of the Year – Region 2
• 2003 and 2006 Sustainable Florida Award

Currently, John’s team is pioneering fuel-cell vehicle and hydrogen electric production technology in Central Florida, in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Chevron, British Petroleum, and Ford Motor Company. 

Prior to joining Progress Energy in 1991, John operated a successful energy-services company recognized by former President Carter as a model program for all states to emulate.

John holds a Bachelor degree in Organizational Management and a Masters in Business Administration from University of Central Florida.  John is a Certified Energy Manager, a Certified Cogeneration Professional, a Distributed Generation Certified Professional, and a Certified Business Energy Professional.
